Tumultous Thursday: I'M NOT A DIME AND I'M COOL WITH THAT
:In My Best Martin Voice:
wassup, Wassup, WAAAASSSAAAAAAA!!!!!
Today, I've come to the conclusion that I think some might not understand or even comprehend. In a world where being a barbie is key, I've come to the conclusion....I don't want to be referred to as a "dime piece."
Ladies put in major hours in the gym, keep up to date with the latest fashion trends and go to extremes (i.e. Chicken steroids in the ass, etc.) just to have the ability to say that they are a dime. Don't get me wrong, I know I look good (not to toot my own horn but HONK HONK!) but I don't see the big obsession with being a dime piece now-a-days. As we all know, beauty has evolved over the years but I don't understand when my beauty is equivalent to a small silver coin? Hell, we couldn't be the half dollar!!! I like the half dollar coin!!!!
I know what some are saying: "You're probably mad that you not a dime yourself" or " You're just a ugly hater," blah blah blah. I respect everyone's opinion as you all know we here in Crazy land respects everyone's view point but what I'm saying is I am okay with who I am and my status on the hot-o-meter. I've never been the girly girl type and I slowly grew into my cute stage. Therefore, why should I put pressure on myself to look like a video vixen?
What I like to consider myself to be is "pretty/adorable" (for those who might be wondering, that would be a solid 8 on the hot-o-meter). I like to be considered "pretty" because I feel that there is something genuine with that term. To be referred to as "sexy" is cool, don't get me wrong ( I have my moments) but that term is usually used because the guy is thinking about the girl doing that cool Karma Sutra move he saw on the porno Booty Hunt Part 4.
To be referred to as "pretty" or "cute" or even "sweet" has a genuine, loving meaning behind it. It means to me that the guy sees me as a woman who has a chance to warm his heart. I know that sounds sappy but even the toughest women on the planet wants to have that moment where they're adore by a man.
I am not knocking girls who consider themselves to be a dime, different strokes for different folks. What I'm saying is that I'm okay being the "cute" girl. I would rather warm your heart than to only be considered as a one-night banger because I know that you care about me if I touch your heart but I don't know if your hard "stick" is going to be a night of bliss for me....so I'll take your love for 500 :-)
What do you think? Sound off......
Mean Muggin' Mondays: Does Your GPA Really Show Your Growth?
Good Evening My Loves!
However, today, I asked myself a question that I feel every college graduate should ask themselves as they prepare to take on the "real world."
Mean Muggin' Mondays: If Love Was A Blow-Up Doll...
Hello Darlings!
Mean Muggin' Mondays: "Success is Failure Turned Inside Out"
When the funds are low, and the debts are high;
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh;
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
And you can never tell how close you are;
It may be near when it seems afar.
So, stick to the fight when you're hardest hit -
It's when things go wrong that you mustn't quit.
Mean Muggin' Monday: It's Good To Be Selfish
Over these past couple of months, I have gone through a lot of soul searching, trying to figure out who I am. As many college graduates (like myself) get ready to take on this thing called life, you start to question what you thought was the"right" thing to do.
There is an old saying: " If you are not happy, then it’s likely that no one around you is happy." Though that might sound a tad bit self-centered but think about it, if you are not happy, how in the hell can you be happy around others.
When you become truly "selfish", you'll have the extra reserves needed to really care about as well as be generous with others.
I mean let's put it all into perspective. When you truly take care of yourself, only then can you have the reserves necessary to be generous with others. How many of us have this backwards? We take care of everyone (and everything) else, and leave ourselves for last. How can we even think about being generous with what we don’t have to give? For many of us, this is a significant contributor to our stress levels. And we’re accomplishing great things in spite of our stress levels, so what’s wrong with that?
Especially as young adults, we are at a point in our lives were we are laying the groundwork for our future. If we get so wrapped up in other people's problems, how can we handle our own. Think about it. If you worry about your homegirl's boy trouble, how the hell you going to have time to worry about your own? Fellas, if your homie always want you to be his wingman constantly, how are you going to have time to build yourself up into that leader status.
I am not saying that you should be cold about things in life but there comes a time where you have to just "do you" and focus on what makes you better in life. If you hurt someone's feelings along the way, so be it! A true friend will respect the fact that you are doing what is right for you and a better you means a better friends, lover, sister, brother, cousin, whatever in this world.
So go ahead…make your self happy!
Tumultous Thursday: Is NBC Racist For Cooking "Soul Food"???
I think it is safe to say that this might have been the tweet heard around the world!
Yesterday, drummer of the Roots Questlove snapped a tweetpic of the "wonderful" lunch menu the cafeteria over at NBC was serving in honor of Black History Month. The menu consisted of fried chicken, collared greens and jalapeno cornbread. As soon as Questlove posted the picture on his twitter page, it spread like wild fire over the internet! Many people were outraged, even threatening to boycott the station(check out the Facebook group they made against NBC.SMH)
To save themselves from yet another scandal, NBC apologized to those who were offended by the menu. However, in a recent interview, NBC Chef Leslie Calhoun, who is black, did not understand the uproar about the menu. She even picked the menu out herself! See below for her interview.
All day, yesterday, I have been tweeted, texted and BBMed (that's Blackberry Messenger for the folks who don't know)about how I felt about the menu. I even got asked if I would "put NBC on blast for being soo ignent (not ignorant, ignent)." To be quite honest with you, I don't know.
Coming from a strong Jamaican family, my parents always insisted that my brothers and I learn about our culture and appreciate it. Hell, when I look at my mother sometimes and call her the Jamaican Angela Davis. So, I have read many books, articles, and speeches about the history of the African Americans, slavery, and also soul food.
So, let me school you young bloods on the history of Soul food....
*clears throat*
Back when slavery was about, slaves had to create their own dishes from the leftovers that their masters did not eat. They had to learn how to prepare simple, one-pot meals such as fufu, which consisted of vegetables and pounded yams. African's native foods were yams, vegetables, rice, and groundnuts so Africans were skillful in growing small gardens (collard greens) and fruits (watermelons). Africans were also very skilled in frying, roasting, grilling, boiling, and steaming their foods. However, cooking was mostly done on open pits or fireplaces, which would be equivalent to how we barbecue today.
They also used large amount of fat, sugar, and salt to season their foods because it was cheap and available. Salt was also used as a preservative since there were no refrigeration or other methods to keep food cool during that time. Also, many people didn't know that slaves use to mix crushed watermelon, sugar and water to make a drink which is somewhat similar to when we mix Kool-Aid today.
So, in a way, soul food symbolizes how our people were brilliant enough to make a divine, healthy meal out of what people would consider nothing but scraps.
However, I can understand why some people would find the menu "racist." NBC having this menu is somewhat offensive and sort of "stereotypical". I mean it is like me saying let's make fried rice for Chinese New Year or let's fist pump during the Columbus Day Parade. Cultures should never be stereotyped at all by one thing. If NBC wanted to celebrate Black History Month through food, why couldn't they have the soul food but put a modern twist on it? Hell, they did it on Top Chef! YOU GUYS OWN TOP CHEF! YOU KNOW BETTER!!!!
What do you crazy folks think? Do you find this offense?
NBC definitely does not need this extra drama. SMH, I bet Jeff Zucker has a huge bottle of Grey Goose in his office because the amount of BS he is going through this early in the year, it is ridonkulous! SMH
Wednesday Mean Muggin Special: What if "The Home Wrecker" is The One?
Now, this story has been a hot topic in my office, on the streets, hell, even on public transportation!
Rumor has that Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz are reportedly engaged to take that next leap of faith. Now this would be a happy story if Swizz Beatz wasn't TECHINICALLY STILL MARRIED to his soon-to-be ex-wife(once the ink is dry) singer Mashonda. Today, as the story hit the streets, I cannot tell you how many times I overheard women calling Alicia Keys a "home wrecker" or a "man-stealer." I literally choked on my drink since I was laughing so hard at my fellow crazy spazing out at Alicia and listening to her theory on "chicks breaking up happy homes."
I read the message boards and tweets about the story and I must say, in somewhat of an ironic twist path to maturity, I genuinely disagree with everyone's disapproval of Alicia and Swizz's relationship.
Ever since news broke that the two were together, I began to ask myself a question tha even I found shocking.(If this was the CrazyPrettyLady back in the day, Lord knows I would have probably spazzed out myself) What if the woman that is considered "the home wrecker" or the "man stealer" is actually the right one for the man?
*Dodges bottles that are being thrown at me because I ask such a question*
HEAR ME OUT!
I, myself, went through a situation where a guy who I was dating left me to be with another woman. To be honest, I went on my rants and called her a "home wrecker" and blah blah blah. However, after reflecting with myself (and taking a lot of anger management classes) I personally realize that though it might not have been the right way he started his new relationship with the other woman, at the end of the day, she was the RIGHT woman for him. Listen, no one on this earth cannot control who they fall in love with and sometimes the one that they want is the one they should not have. However, a lot of time people do not follow what their heart because they want to either spare their spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend of pain or in some case, like in Swizz's in my opinion, a child is involved and you want to keep a happy home.
Before men of world try to pat me on the back for "sticking up for them", DO NOT THINK THAT I AM CONDONING CHEATING. I am not saying that AT ALL. If you are cheating, meaninf your sleeping around without a care in the world, you deserve to get your a$$ beat! (Well not beat, but hurt really badly.) What I am saying is that if you know your heart is elsewhere and not with the person you are with now, then it is best to just let that person go and be with the one that makes you happy. This is what Swizz did; he loves Alicia. There is not one person who can tell me that this relationship does not look genuine. I remember seeing pics of Swizz and Mashonda around the time they were going to split and I am not going to lie, THE MAN LOOKED MISERABLE!

And to all the women who calling Alicia a "man-stealer", cut it out! Look, no woman like a home wrecker at all. However, ladies, keep it funky! you Never been in a relationship with a guy you absolutely can't stand but stayed in the relationship to save his heart and spare yourself from being lonely and then you meet the guy that is perfect for you and though you were considered "grimey" to leave your old boyfriend behind, you could care less because you are so happy to be with the one that makes heart and soul smile? I have been that girl and to this very day, I am happy to be with this man and wouldn't change my decision.
So, ladies, put down the pitch fork and stop cussing on the blogs. You can't control what your heart feels and at the end of the day, if the love is real, it will always survive. So, congrats to Alicia and Swizz. I wish you guys nothing but success.
And to Mashonda, I wish you too all the best. Don't worry, you will find your prince charming.
P.S. - If you disagree with me, that's cool. However, I am being honest and real. Some of you chicks out there who are cursing up a storm are the same ones who sleep with your man's friends because you feel *in ghetto dialect* "he wasn't giving it the way I want it. So I went elsewhere" Yea, heffa, I am talking about YOU! So, cut the bullsh*t and leave these lovebirds alone!
Ta-Ta :-)
Crazy Random: A Geek's Wet Dream
This has got to be a nerd's wet dream coming a reality. LMAO!
I am sorry but when I first saw this, I could not stop laughing! Meet Roxxxy. Roxxxy is making history as she is the very first sex robot on the market. Yes, you heard it right, they have created a sex robot. The robot premiered at the AVN porn show and from by the look of the video, nerd and pervs seem to be happy to know that they can fake that they are getting it on with some"one" rather than their hand. Now, I am just saying, is it REAALLLLYYY necessary to have a "sex robot"? Fellas, you mean to tell me you can't get any girl in the world? Plus, aren't you scared that your "long john" might get electrocuted? I mean she might be able to do what a woman can do but it isn't the real thing! I mean, what has it come down to men in this world needing to bang out robot? lmao. Check out the debut of the toy and please listen to the geeks in the background. They sound so happy.
Wow and I thought owning a Jack Rabbit was bad....lmao
